Stop WebRTC leaking your real IP
If your VPN is on but WebRTC exposes a different public IP, websites can see where you really are.
WebRTC lets browsers do video calls. To connect peers it discovers your public IP addresses, and some VPN setups let it do that outside the tunnel. Any website can then read your real IP with a few lines of JavaScript.
Fix it
- Use your VPN's app, not a browser extension, and turn on its kill switch. System-wide tunnels rarely leak.
- Firefox: open
about:configand setmedia.peerconnection.ice.default_address_onlytotrue. To disable WebRTC entirely, setmedia.peerconnection.enabledtofalse(this breaks browser video calls). - Brave: Settings → Privacy and security → WebRTC IP handling policy → Disable non-proxied UDP.
- Chrome / Edge: install uBlock Origin and enable Prevent WebRTC from leaking local IP addresses in its settings, or use your VPN provider's WebRTC protection.
Then run the Health Check again and confirm the leak row says "No leak".
